I am Professor of Philosophy  at the University of Pennsylvania.

My main scholarly interests are in ethical theory, epistemology, aesthetics, the philosophy of art, and the philosophy of perception. Issues in metaphysics and the philosophy of mind are also intimately connected to my work.

I also write for non-scholarly audiences. So far this is mostly on my substack Critical Chunks. I write about why the things that I love are beautiful. Highlights so far include essays on Caravaggio, Sufjan Stevens, The Bear, Louise Glück, and Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name. Peruse and subsribe below.
